Who are we? Pro-Life!

“Who are we?”
“Who are we?”
This chant and more echoed throughout the streets of Austin on Saturday as the UMHB Cru 4 Life group took a team of like-minded students to march on the Texas capitol. Bystanders looked by as a crowd of 3,000 held signs and crosses while they marched straight up Congress Avenue.
“One day people will look back on abortion the way we look back on the issue of slavery in the United States. We’ll ask ourselves, ‘What were we thinking?’”
These were the words of one of Sen. Dan Patrick speakers at the pro-life rally Jan. 23. He, along with Gov. Rick Perry showed their support for the pro-lifers.
“The issue of life is not a partisan issue,” exclaimed the governor.
Many politicians made an appearance and tried to get in good favor with voters before the 2010 elections, and fittingly so as the atmosphere seemed quite patriotic. Before the festivities ended, both politician and protestor joined together in singing “God Bless America”.
The protest did not go without some antagonists however. Outside the Capitol were some pro-choice counter-protestors who challenged the pro-lifers, but the area seemed anything but hostile. The counter-protestors were young and small in number.
Friday marked the 37th anniversary of the court decision of Roe v. Wade that legalized abortion, and the rally on Saturday was marked subsequently after to garner awareness of the issue.
